Almirante Reis

Traditional Old House
Olhão - Portugal

This project started as a request for small works to be carried out by the new owners, but quickly turned into a renovation of the whole house, the terrace and finally the decoration of the whole renovated space.

This old building of 200 sqm consists of a first floor with very high ceilings as well as a bedroom and a bathroom on the terrace which has a view over the whole city.

All the old floors have been restored, the large stone staircase as well and the stucco on the walls has been repainted because of the damages caused by the passage of time.

We have, however, managed to "save" the beautiful stucco stone banister thanks to a local craftsman who knows how to use this technique.

The kitchen and bathrooms have been completely redone in harmony with the rest of the house but with the modern comfort that the owners wanted.

All the floors have been polished and glazed to preserve their natural appearance and colour and thus keep the noble material of oak combined with the old cement tiles in the hallway.

The ceilings with their original mouldings have been carefully repainted so that every detail is highlighted and can be seen with the naked eye.

The decoration has brought elegance to this hundred-year-old house which had lost its charm by being poorly maintained.

As a reminder of the time of construction, like two relics, the large chandelier in the corridor and the mirror, stand out at the top of the stone staircase. The objects and furniture selected for the other rooms of the house reflect  the owners wish to make it their holiday home, simple yet chic, functional yet elegant.
