Casa Branca

Traditional Old House
Olhão - Portugal

When the owners of this house, located in a nice street in Olhão, came to see us, they had just bought it and it had been recently renovated but the terraces had not been finished, the kitchen was partitioned and some of the materials used in the renovation were not adapted to the local architecture.

Saudade therefore thought about redefining the spaces by creating a kitchen opening onto the living room on the ground floor as well as the patio where the whole family takes its meals. The floors inside were either renovated or completely replaced with cement tiles. Outside, everything has been covered with Santa Catarina stone, a terracotta made in the Algarve and widely used on the town's terraces. On the first floor, the "teenagers' terrace”, was redesigned, made more cosy: bar/kitchen, masonry bench and pergolas.

And as in almost all typical houses in Olhão, a third floor called "açoteia", which had no use, has been transformed into a summer room with wooden shutters and an outdoor shower. The house is thus divided into several spaces where everyone can meet to enjoy every moment of the day and the sun reflected in the white of the walls!
