Casa Flor

Traditional Old House
Olhão - Portugal

Casa Flor is nestled in a pedestrian street in the old part of the town called Bareta, which was once inhabited exclusively by fishermen.

Originally everything was partitioned and the small rooms followed one another blindly to a patio in which the only bathroom of the house was located.

In order to bring light into all the spaces, we studied the structures, which were more than a hundred years old, and enlarged the rooms, opening skylights in the vaulted ceilings and turning the bathroom into a kitchen overlooking the patio. The floors, very damaged by the years and little maintenance, have been replaced by materials such as terracotta or authentic cement tiles made by local craftsmen.

On the first floor, we have imagined a bedroom and a summer bathroom bathed by the sun with a terrace and flowered pergola. The fisherman's house has kept all its charm but the sunlight is now an integral part of the architecture.
